Can someone please tell me how to convert a hdtv 720p avi movie to a mpeg2 hdtv file?

it does, but you can't use the built in wizard, you need to cancel the wizard and load the "unlock" template which will allow you to use custom parameters.

having said this, tmpgenc plus does not encode ac3 audio, just mp2 and lcpm and if you are planning on creating a HD mpeg-2 files, i can't see using mp2/lcpm.

a better option is to create an avisynth script and use QuEnc.

Good idea, but I think HCenc v.20 is the one with HD res support for Mpeg2. I wouldn't be surprised if Quenc could do it, I've just never seen it done at 720p.

the thing with QuEnc is that you can't set the output resolution, whatever the input res is, so too will the output res be. having said that, i have had no trouble creating 1080p mpeg-1/2/4 files with QuEnc.
