  1. Has anyone found a way to alter the bitrate used for rendering converting DivXs? I normally put 4 x 45 min TV episodes on a 4.5gb DVD but its only allowing 2.5 before being oversized.

I would try rendering them in Virtualdub (or any other application) and author the menus in TDA.

In the "Source" Stage, click on the Settings button for the track that you want to change the bitrate. This will open the track settings window.

Click on the Video tab and for the first option, "Encoder Mode", select "Re-encode all videos as below" from the pull-down menu.

Towards the bottom of the window you should be able to alter the Max Bitrate and the Bitrate to whatever you want.

You can also mess around with the "Video encoder advanced options" but I have yet to play around with those.

Thanks gyoshi - a whole host of new options! Is there anyway to apply settings to all the tracks at once as I'm putting each episode in a separate track (is that the best way?). I was using the 'fit to' option on the output page but I'm not sure if this is doing the same thing although it appears to work.

  5. Also, on another point I keep getting an Access is Denied error (see link). Any ideas? I'm 99% sure its something to do with AC3 audio as the source files that have failed so far are AC3.

Hmmm I don't think there's a way to apply the settings to all of the tracks at once...at least to my knowledge. Putting them in separate tracks is probably the best way to structure the DVD if you want each episode to have it's own chapter menus, so I think you're going to just have to adjust each track individually...

However, the transcoding feature you mention will also do the trick of adjusting the bitrate for you (I forgot about this feature for a moment!), so that is probably the best thing to use if you're more concerned with fitting X amount of episodes on one DVD. If you use the transcoding feature, adjusting the bitrates manually is probably a moot point, so I say just go with the transcoding and forget about adjusting bitrates.

That's an interesting one. I don't think I can help you with that one. You should send this over to their tech support; I'm sure they'd love to see this.

  7. I'll have to wait until I purchase it to submit the problem by the look of things! I have done some further testing however: it appears that files with 5.1 AC3 sound play very distorted - setting AC3 filter or ffdshow to 2.0 channel output appears to fix things Has anyone else tried converting a 5.1 AC3 file and if so what system codec is being used?
