To be frank, it irritates me to come across a post with SMS-style wordings and whatnot. Personally I think that it does not take a helluva lot more effort to at least present your post in a readable fashion. That said, spelling and grammar in general does not bother me too much, so long as the general gist of the sentence can be deciphered.
If in doubt, Google it. -

I couldn't care less how someone makes a post, using proper grammer or not. Where I hang lately, I'm just happy if people have basic understanding of english or if they can type fast enough to hold down a conversation. In fact, my vocabulary on several languages has been increased and I'm rather thankfull for that.
This thread on bitching about someone bitching out someone else is entirely irrelevant to me. Go ahead and bitch on, but please leave me out of it. -
hmmm, am I the only one using Firefox 2.0?
it has a pretty good inbuilt spell checker that works instantly as you type in any text field box. As soon as you finish typing a word (by pressing space) it will underline anything it thinks is wrong. All you do is right click and select one of the suggestions (or add the new word to the dictionary) and it's job done 8)
it's pretty good as it makes me aware of words I may normally spell incorrectly. It does also make you lazy as you can spell a longer word incorrectly on purpose without worrying about spelling and then use the checker to correct it
@SM, it was SD who started itbut hopefully you still can see the funny side of why he said it like I did

As long as you can make out the general context of what the poster is trying to say, then that is all that matters. We are only human and do commit the occasional typo.

@SM: Sorry for this... I'm skimming over the thread and reading through MX's posts it brought a tear to my eye. Just thought it was a different time, different place...

Concerning those who make infrequent mistakes by accident: I don't see how correctly somebody's grammar makes one feel superior. It's helping somebody, part of the learning process (which we all do, forever and ever). It's even more helpful if somebody is helping you with your second language.
Concerning those who make frequent mistakes, either by accident or on purpose: If anything, speaking and writing badly is a problem that has to be corrected. We have enough bullcrap slang and half-effort writing as it is. Enough with the political correct crap of "let's not criticize each other's spelling and grammar". In the words of George Carlin: "Bull-*******-shit!" If you don't want to be told you sound or write like a dipstick, then go back to school, buy some self-help books/tapes (they have free ones online these days too), or quit trying to be "cute".
Letting bad speaking/writing fester is how we end up with dolts for leaders (politics, business, family). I can think of a certain political figurehead that speaks and writes like a moron. Reminds me of this comic too:
Seriously, what an idiot!Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)
