Does it worth it to convert a movie to VCD format ? I mean, why converting to VCD for playback on a standalone DVD player ? VCD quality is less than SVCD or DVD

  3. Hmm, to make illegal downloads faster at 800mb instead of 4.7gigs

    Just joking, no-body go nuts!!!

Actaully a few reasons. First all the VCD and SVCD stuff was alot bigger deal I think when I got started about 3-4 years ago than it probably is now. My first DVD burner was a 2X for $200 and disks cost about $1 each for cheap crappy stuff and maybe $2 or $3 each for decent stuff like TY Yudens. Also I had a better system than alot of people I know at that time, so I had the speed and power to do a DVD even back then, whereas most people I know did not!
So compare that to any crappy system with a $50 CD burner and 30cent disks of good quality for CD-R.

There are still alot of older systems, and I just got an older laptop, CD drive only and maybe a 2X I think. So if I wanted, but won't do, I could make VCD or SVCD disks and watch them on the laptop while travleing around in the old motor home I recently bought. Still many laptops out there that do not have DVD drives and not upgradeable easily or cheaply to a DVD drive. So VCD or SVCD may be good for a lot of people who travel alot on business or such. Heck I would rather watch a VCD of my choice on a 6hr flight than maybe some crappy airline movie maybe,
I would not really know, they don't play movies in the cargo bay, I can't afford low class seats so I just box myself up and fly cargo class
