Of course we're talking about public domain films here , but a number of people swear by www.archive.org . I'm sure if you googled "Public Domain Movies" a number of other leads might come up.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    Hi and Happy New Year!

Since you're new here I'll just say that downloading copyright movies is not discussed
on these forums...there are many others that it's all good...But not here.

    The reason I say that...
Is if you ask for these types of things here...a Mod is gonna' Spank or Ban you.

Do NOT give, link, ask, or advocate WAREZ.
Warez includes downloaded copyrighted movies and TV-series/shows and copying rented movies.
EDIT: Public domain films are OK and can be mentioned openly as jimmalenko has indicated.
Very sorry if that was the intent.

  8. It is NOT always illegal to download copyrighted materals either, not everything has to be public domain to be legal.

I have placed a few things in the past that I own the copyrights to on those places of which we do not speak. Therefore it was with my consent that the places of which we do not speak freely alough the downloads of my copyrighted materials, therefore the downloading of copyrighted materials is not in itself illegal! Niether are the places of which we do not speak illegal in themselfs. It is the users of the places of which we do not speak that are breaking the laws by placing copyrighted materials for downloading by others against the wishes of the copyright owners. Unfortunately they may be the majority of users, but still those copyrighted files that are placed there by the owners of the rights are not Illegal!

These places of which we do not speak could be and are at times a great methode of advertising if used properly by copyright owners, although this is seldom done.

It should also be pointed out, much of the FREEWARE software IS copyrighted material NOT PUBLIC DOMAIN even though it may be placed online for free downloads at places like Download.com or listed places like here with links to the source sites, ran by the copyright owners much of the time.
I think just about ALL Trialware/Demos are copyrighted aren't they, but yet they are also freely downloaded from many sources with permision of the copyright owners.

That is what makes the difference, rather it is with consent of the copyright owners or not. Downloading copyrighted material itself or even uploading it is not ILLEGAL no matter where it is if the copyright owner aloughs it!

I have been paid in the past to create files for copyright owners who then placed these files I created onto the Places of which we do not speak. They owned the copyrights to those files and therefor it was NOT illegal for people to download those copyrighted files after the copyright owners themselfs placed them into the networks of which we do not speak.

One band for whom I made a video a few years ago told me long ago they got over 100 sales from a place of which we do not speak! The copyrighted video had a scrolling banner along the bottom of it with the contact info to order cd's and any order using that specific info was known to have come from the video that was placed out there in where we do not speak of.
Again, the downloading of that copyrighted material was NOT illegal, the band wrote the songs and owned copyrights to EVERYTHING and they WANTED that copyrighted video to be downloaded as much as possible!
Making such things freely available does not void any copyrights or make anything public domain, they still had the right to collect royalties if anyone ever recorded there songs comercaily, performed in concerts or anything else.

I use all four and everything you could possibly imagine, is there for the taking.

Seeing as the thread is not " Where or what do you use to download pirate/illegal/copyrighted/stolen films",

i see no reason to attack the op with do-gooder comments.

    happy new year everyone

    No shit, sherlock

The OP said that they didn't know about text quoted from the rules, and I simply pointed out that said user must have agreed to the rules when they signed up. So who mentioned pirate/illegal/copyrighted/stolen films ? Not I.

Oh, that's right - vico1 read the riot act.

And overloaded_ide clarified that there is a difference between public domain and authorised distribution.

    Chill, dude !
    If in doubt, Google it.

Depends on the type of copyright, many free softwares like for instance the software that runs this forum is released under the GNU GPL which works the opposite way of a traditioal copyright. It's to insure that any code produced by such projects stays open source and free.

Not really the "Riot Act" per se. (it was as mild as I could put it... .. )
I just wanted him to be in the know, before he asked for something...
    more, "Specific"...

That was the only reason I initially posted...to Help him, Not denigrade.

Well ... when I saw the post ... I thought to myself ... hmmm ... this should be a interesting thread ... and sure enuff ... the so called ... RIOT ACT ... was posted.

That is a good answer ... "from the Internet"

    I use a Search program called Copernic ... http://www.copernic.com

    I don't use Google.

I type a few ... key words and hit the search button.

I would probably ... use the word ... torrent and a key word or words that would help me get results.

The good thing about ... Copernic ... it keeps my results for months. And if I remember to copy the data files where Copernic keeps them I can reuse them when I reinstall WINXP again.

What I dont like about Google is the effort involved in keeping the search results.

So ... I am a providing the answer to the question ... What do you use to find films that can be downloaded ??

I have already posted a reply to another question asked on similar point some months back :

    http://www.publicdomaintorrents.com/ ... and a few other's .

As for coppernic ... delete all non-related links in each search , and save as html ... simple , and an advantage to those that create webpage's or site's with multiple link's ... for me it's for cd / dvd tool's package navigation with link's with reference's to guides / updates online ... the guides are also included as pdf's incase they dissappear online ... which happen's all too often .
