I'd like to attach my gl2 to my computer with firewire and then capture directly to my hardrive controlled by my gl2. (i.e. capture on or off based on record button on gl2) I'd also like for each clip to be its own file named with the timestamp when recorded. I'd also like the video to be displayed on the computer monitor while recording (or not recording to disc.) I found WinDV which does most of this but unfortunately it doesn't seem to be controllable from the camera. Thx.

WinDV follows DirectShow convention (i.e. control from computer). Never saw one that operates as you wish. Even LanC needs the target machine to to be cued.

Thanks. I don't know anything about the DirectShow convention but I do know that there are commercial products out there that do this. (DVsport for example)

The Firestore FS4 will respond to the red record button too. I just haven't seen PC "capture" software that reacts to camcorder buttons.
