Hi all,
Here's my question, I have a french DivX 4 movie called "La verite si je mens 2",
Anyways, I wanted to encode it to VCD to burn it. I followed the steps as described in http://www.vcdhelp.com/divxtovcd.htm
I started by extracting the Audio with Virtualdub, then encoded it with tmpgenc, using the divX as video source, and the extracted wave as audio source. Even if the source DivX was a 25,000 fps (Pal), I wanted to encode it to NTSC Video CD, wich didn't cause any problem for me before. I didn't set any range to cut because I've had bad experience with cutting a movie with tmpgenc before...
Anyways, everything worked well, and the mpeg file is working perfectly. Now I try to open it with M2-Edit-Pro 3.0.3 to cut it to fit on 2 CD's, but when I do, I get an error message saying:
I tried to fix the mpeg using MPEG-corrector, then re-open the result on M2-edit. Still the same error message...Cannot open file G:\La Vérité Si Je Mens 2 (français) .mpg for reading.
Select another MPEG file?
I just came to video encoding about 2 weeks ago, and I really don't know what to do with that. PLEEAAASE help![]()

Not getting any reply, I decided to give it a try with tmpgenc.
So I go to File > Mpeg tools > Merge & Cut
I set type to Video CD then add my mpeg movie.
I then double click on the movie, and I get the error : "Illegal MPEG video stream"
Please, please, please, if any one can help... I'm really desperate and don't know what to do... Thanks -
Oh, and by the way, if this can help, here are the caracteristics of my original DivX file as given by VirtualDub:

And the caracteristics of the MPEG I got as a result:

Hope this can help -
Try using mpeg tools in TMPGEnc to simple demultiplex, and then multiplex (using VCD setting). if this goes ahead, you should be able to cut with mpeg tools. BTW, when cutting with mpeg tools, generally it is best to play the mpg for a few seconds before selecting the cutting point.
Failing that, try mpeg2vcr at http://download.apachez.net/download/editor/mpeg2vcr303.rar -
Banjazzer, thank you for your answer. I'm now trying to work from the avi source file and the extracted wave to create the mpeg directluy cut in tmpgenc. I'll see the result. If this doesn't work, I'll try your solution, and tell you wether it works or not...

I though M2-Edit was for MPEG-2 only not MPEG-1 (VCD) -- Use VCDCutter to split VCD's (which I almost never have to do anymore)
anyway I just typed out instructions on how to make a full movie DivX into two VCD's within TMPGEnc without cutting .... it's toward the end of my long reply
here is the post - this removes the bothersome cutting step

Thanks for the info on M2-Edit - I didnt know that :-)
can you tell me what worked? I am a little confused by your reply - I'm thrilled to hear you got it worked out but what part were you overlooking and what fixed it (you were kinda vague)
I only ask becasue I help A LOT of people here and I like to know what exactly the fix was :-) ... so I can learn from your success and the next time this question comes up I can be sure what to suggestyour pal,

Here's how I have dealed with that. The first time, I followed exactly the process explained in the "DivX to VCD All In One Guide" ( http://www.vcdhelp.com/divxtovcd.htm ) but skipped the step of cutting the movie because I wanted to do that after with M2-Edit... That's because I'm new to video editing (started about 2 weeks ago), but I've seen that there are problems of audio synch when cutting a movie with tmpgenc (though I've never worked with a separate wave file before).
What fixed the problem is that I simply restarted the whole process explained in the link above, WITH the cut of the movie.
My VCD is now ready, burned, and seen
Hope this can help you... I don't feel I'm good enough now to help other people with video editing, but I'm someone who learns fast when it matters to computers, so I may soon start to help pple too
And by the way, sorry If I make a lot of mistakes in my posts, that's because I'm not english native
PS: I've posted another question about karaoke VCD's in the Authoring and burning section... Take a look at it, maybe you could have an answer...( http://forum.vcdhelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=90384 )
