Recently I have captured several vhs tapes that have only a Mono audio channel. This audio only appears in the left channel, and I was wondering if there is a program that I can download for free that will let me duplicate this left channel into a left and right channel mono and then re-author this audio to the dvd. Thanks in advance for the help.

    captured to dvd?
then pgcdemux to split video and audio tracks.
fix the audio track with a video editor like goldwave, copy left channel to right. save as wav. (convert to ac3 with ffmpeggui)
reauthor the video with the new audio using muxman or another authoring tool like tda.

Hello. Thanks so much for the information. I have followed your steps which were very clear. Unfortunately, after I join the video back with the audio, the audio is slightly ahead of the video for some reason. Do you know what caused this and how I can fix it? Thanks so much.

Try using DGIndex for demuxing the audio, it will write audio delay time to the name of the audio file. If it is not zero, use it for the adjustment of decoded .wav (usually adding silence in the beginning).

A significantly easier and quicker way to do this that would hopefully avoid the sync issue would be to go to Radio Shack and buy a Y connector that has one RCA input and 2 RCA outputs. You just connect the left channel audio ouput from your VCR into the single RCA input and connect 2 cables from the RCA outputs to your video card The Y connector will "double" the audio so it appears on both channels.

Hello. Thanks for all of the help. Even with the new program I am still getting the same result. Also, I am using a vhs to dvd recorder so I cannot use an rca cable to my video card because the conversion is not done on my computer. I don't understand why I keep getting sync issues. Can anyone offer any further help. Thanks.

Was there any delay when you used dgindex?
Are the length of the video and the new audio exact the same?
    How did you reauthor it?

Hey man. There was a delay when I used both programs including dgindex. I tried re-authoring it to dvd with both of the programs you suggested and I got the same results. Also, I am unable to get a time on the video and audio file to make sure they are the same length. I tried dumping the video into VLC and also CinePlayer and they didn't give an accurate time. Also, I tried dumping the audio into VLC and Winamp and got the same results as well. Do you know of anything else I can do? Thanks.
