Hello, first off, I am a complete newbie. I know very little about computer terminology.

Anyway, I purchased a software program called NERO 7: Ultra Edition in order to transfer home movies to my computer. I've figured out how to trim them down into smaller clips. But my next goal was to upload them onto Youtube.

The clips are saved on my desktop as .NRG files. I tried to upload one to Youtube. And I had no problem with it. However, since that initial success, Youtube hasn't let me upload any additional clips. I can upload them. But I then get an error message that says something like "FILE NOT RECOGNIZED."

Youtube says that that it accepts files in the .AVI, .MOV, and .MPG file formats. So how it accepted (and plays) my initial upload is a mystery to me.

At this point, I'm looking for a way to convert my .NRG files into either .AVI, MOV, or .MPG formats.

Can anyone explain how to do this? Do I need to purchase some additional software? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

nrg files are CD/DVD images. Converting depends on the contents of said images. Possible that ffmpeg or whatever youtube uses could support some nrg's since they are similar to iso's.

The images are from a roughly one-hour home video from my high school. I was breaking down the video into smaller clips. So they're all from the same source - a homemade DVD (which I had burned from an old VHS tape). I can't imagine that one clip would have different content than the other. Could I be mistaken?

Is it even possible to convert it to something other than .NRG? Or am I out of luck?

Does Nero have a way for you to save the file as something other than .NRG?

Several options: You could install the freeware Daemon Tools and mount the .nrg, then extract out the .mpg video. Or IsoBuster should be able to do that. There should be no quality loss.

A .nrg is a image format and is made to be used by Nero for burning the file to a disc and then that disc would just have the video files. You should be able to tell Nero to just save it as a video instead.

Nero also may have saved the video file somewhere on the computer before converting it to .nrg. I don't use Nero to convert anything, so I don't know what it may have done.
