    So, I recently upgraded to Nero 7, and after getting the necessary licenses, I was able to convert a DivX video to DVD successfully. But now, I can't convert ANY video to DVD in the program, and I don't understand why.

    Here's the error log from my latest attempt. Thanks to whoever can help me!

    I see two problems, but the rest of the log is missing

    15:02:41] DVDEngine ERROR
    But it seems to have worked past this one.

    [15:02:50] NeroVision CdRomPeripheral : BM5463W FMJ446N 1.0 ah68o345 Port 4 ID 0 DMA: Off
    Not so much an error as a problem with this device. It probably should be in DMA mode. But it doesn't appear to be the burner you were using.

    Neither of those appear to be the problem. Can you post the rest of the log? And you would have to describe what happened exactly. From the log, it looks like it was ready to burn. If so, the remainder of the log would likely have a burning error. Did you check the files that NV produced? I assume there are some.

    I haven't used NV in some time, but when you upgraded, did you use the NeroClean Tool first to remove older versions? That can cause problems at times.

    Most of use would probably suggest you try FAVC or ConvertXToDVD instead, but since you purchased NV... Or other members may spot something in that log that I missed.

    And welcome to our forums.

    I copied and pasted everything inside the txt file, so if it's incomplete, then Nero must be incapable of saving complete logs. Wouldn't surprise me.

    And I wasn't trying to use a burner. I was trying to save it to my hard drive, so why it said something about a burner is beyond me.

    Use nero for what it was meant for. Burning. Use another software to do the actual conversion.

    Redwudz already mentioned two very good ones. FAVC(free) and convertxtodvd(not free).

    I'll try FAVC. Thanks to both of you. AVI2DVD has started to annoy me with constant errors so I thought Nero might have actually been a good alternative. I guess I was wrong. :X

    When using favc I would also suggest to use hcenc as the encoder it uses. It will offer you very good quality.

    I'm also going to mention. FAVC will do fairly simple menus. If you are looking for nicer and more custom menus you might look into using some various freeware software separately. It's a little more drawn out but in the end you can have a much more personalized video experience.

    For video converting I would suggest HCenc. For audio encoding try aften. Once you have those you can author a very custom dvd with menus only limited by your imagination by using the freeware guifordvdauthor.

    FAVC does all of this for you but limits you with a simple menu. I prefer to make my own menus by authoring the dvd myself. FAVC is a great piece of software but if you want more control over the process nothing beats doing it manually yourself. Plenty of guides to help you along the way.

    Meh, I liked the menus I was able to make in Nero, but I've been doing fine without menus on AVI2DVD for ages. (I quit making menus after I found out that when I made them, they messed with some desktop settings.)

    Thanks for all the Help. I hope this works better than AVI2DVD did. I constantly had to do all kinds of mess to videos to make them work.

    FAVC gets very good reports from members here. Haven't heard anything good about avi2dvd.

    Well I downloaded it, but now I'm having a problem generating a preview of the menu. I get this message:

    Here's the error log it gave me:

    See the end of this message for details on invoking
    just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

    ************** JIT Debugging **************
    To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
    application or computer (machine.config) must have the
    jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
    The application must also be compiled with debugging
    enabled.

    For example:

    <configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
    </configuration>

    When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
    will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
    rather than be handled by this dialog box.

    Been having way too many little problems with FAVC. Have switched to AVStoDVD (also free and HCenc ready) and it seems to be working well. The latest version makes decent menus and it is easy to change/tweak your script and preview it. The interface is a bit confusing though.

    That said I do like and use Nero Vision 4 at times, but it is very easy to 'break'.

    Hi MysticE,

    when you say "The interface is a bit confusing", are you referring to the main program or the DVD Editor? Let me know more details, as I may continuously improve AVStoDVD.

    If we become OT, we can continue the discussion in AVStoDVD thread.

    @teapot - it looks like you do not have .net 2.0 installed on your system, as per the pre-requisites.
    Read my blog here.
