Both my first and replacement NEC ND-3550A burner will not recognize TDK CD-RW blank media. It's using the Windows XP SP-2 Driver 5.1.2535.0. It will recognize other brands of blank CDs and my Lite-On CD burner does recognize the TDKs. I tried 10 of the 25 in the new cake stack. Both NEC burners are from Newegg. Can anyone please advise me? It is important to me to be able to use CD-RWs.

    What are you burning with?
See if the drive recognizes that media with DVD Identifier (free)
What firmware version does your drive have?

This was a OEM Newegg pkg. I thought the Firmware was 1.05. I use Roxio Creator 7. It reconises all brands of DVDs and other CD-R blanks.

Newest firmware is 1.06. Try upgrading that. Also be aware that some drives just don't like certain media. If your TDK isn't MIJ then it might be a good idea to try something else anyway.

FYI, you can use Liggy's 1Y6 or 1.06 Bitsetting firmware if you want to be able to bitset DVD+Rs. Essentially, this is the 1.06 firmware modified to support this. It's not NEC firmware though.

Thank you very much. I can't tell if my TDK cd-rw's are MIJ. It doesn't say. Where would it say, its not on the label? I don't want to ruin this burner with firmware that's out of the 'box' so to speak. I asked newegg and they will let me exchange the second Burner as well. So I think I am going to take them up on it. Thanks again for the help.
