If we use the newly released Blu-ray movies as a standard for the average data rate of
HD video signal (MB/sec), would anyone care to speculate on what the duration of an 8.5GB
double layer DVD+R burned to full capacity with this standard data rate 1080p video would be?

Has anyone actually measured the average data rate of the new HD video?

I keep hearing that there's all sorts of room on the new HD discs for "extras", like games. So
it can't be as simple as assuming that a 120 minute movie takes up the entire 50 GB capacity
of the Blu-ray disc, resulting in the 8.5GB DL DVD+R disc being able to hold roughly 20 minutes
of new standard 1080p. The new "standard" data rate has to be lower than the calculated
    result of 6.95MB per second.

I'm *not* talking about ripping and/or decrypting Blu-ray discs, just trying to guess at
how viable the DL DVD+R discs would be for storing and sharing non-"Hollywood" video
of the same standard 1080p image quality as is on the new Blu-ray discs.
