I am a tech familar guy, sure that I can figure most things out.... to my own demise in most cases. I ask this, begging a patient and simple reply... I am swimmming from all the letters and abreviations..... basically, I have a Dish HDTV setup, and I have the PVR that matches it, the pocket dish. I am all over the world and starving for the way to record and watch media, listen to music and watch movies and TV while in strange and discvonnected corners of the world. So, Dish DVR recordings... how to move to PC to burn to disk?, I have tried the basics, but it appeas as a format that I cannot figure out how to access? DPD?, ATF?, Just DVR or PVR to PC, to burn to disc, then to watch on the disc, and build a library. Can I store on my HD and just watch from there too?

    Hangin on to hear.....

You mean other than S-Video and audio out to a capture device?

    examples:
WinTV PVR USB2 (internal NTSC tuner and hardware DVD Mpeg2 encoding)
Plextor Connectix USB2 (internal hardware DVD Mpeg2 or Mpeg4 encoding)

I was just reading your conversation with NOTSOEASY.... I learned alot from this, the simplicity of just burning DVDS rather than to PC, then having to convet and ransfer and so on.... I have a PC and a new laptop, but I do not have a DVD recorder, a standalone, the laptop and the PC have burners so this is why I wanted to use them and use the external stand alone HD I have. Although the HD does not have an S vid or audio connects., Seems that buying a DVDrecorder is the simplest, but how then to record non-live content... also would it record in min. by min. timing this way? Any way to record is an acelerated manner as in the firewire ransfer to a PC?

Thanks for your expertise and your help, recommended course?, or equipment to get?

All recording from the S-Video analog port will be 1x speed. Digital transfer of files is discouraged by the service providers.

A standalone DVD recorder is probably the easiest method. If you get one with an internal hard drive you aren't limited to 4.3GB at a time.
