How can I create chapters in a movie and not have to create a menu. What I want is once the movie is done, I place it in a DVD player and it starts playing. I want to be able to hit the button to jump to the next chapter.

I'm using Studio 10. When I create chapters, it puts all of the chapters to the menu and so I have pages and pages of menus with all of the chapters. I don't want to see the menus or chapters but I want to be able to jump forward to the next menu.

    Thanks,

    Thy

Can't you just delete the menu pages afterwards ?

I use DLP, which lets you create chapters independently of menus, as do most standalone authoring apps. Perhaps you need to look at something different to studio 10 for authoring.

    Hi thienthy

I'm a former Studio user, and I don't like menus.
Unfortuanately, you can't delete the menu from inside Studio editing timeline, that will delete the chapter points also.

If you want to keep using Studio, here's a suggestion ---
What I always did was this ---
use any menu out of the pre-made Menus Album, set chapter points, and when done go to Make Disk, set up bitrate and audio settings.
Then click on Create Files Without Burning (or words to that effect), that will create the DVD file folder on the hard-drive
(usually in the Pinnacle Auxilliary Files folder)
After Studio renders the DVD files to hard drive, open that dvd folder with DVD-Shrink,
Click ReAuthor, drag the Main Title (movie only) to the left-hand selections window. This will save the movie with the chapter points, but no menu.
Then click Backup to chosen format. Burn with your favorite app.
(I use Create ISO and then burn with ImgBurn)

    hope this helps a bit.

    Hi
That was exactly what I did to get rid of the menu. I deleted the menu in Studio and it deleted all of my chapters. So I ended it up using dvd shrink.

I wasn't sure if encoding twice (Studio and then DVD-Shrink) would hurt my image quality.

For now, that would be my procedure.

    Thanks,

    Thien Thy

Import your movie into TMPGEnc DVD Author and choose the No Menu option from the drop-down menu on the menu creation page.

If you import an .mpg, you can create your chapter points in TDA, or if you import from a VIDEO_TS folder in which you've already created your chapter points, I believe it'll give you the option to keep them.

You can also do this with DVDAuthorGUI - you can create chapter points within a movie/title without needing to create a menu.

Shrink won't touch the video if the size is under a single disc capacity, or if you set the compression to No Compression for the asset.

That said, output mpeg video and audio and use one of the suggested authoring tools is a simpler option.

  8. MuxMan. The chapters (in a txt file) should point to the frame numbers.
