Dvd-ram and movies?

I had a quick question? I have a Pananonic Dvd player that plays dvd-ram. If i was to get a DVD burner(SAMSUNG SH-S182D) and backup and burn my retail movies in to a dvd-ram can i watch them on my dvd player?

Between None and just a few, because DVD-RAM is not part of DVD format.

No, PCs use a different format for RAM than standalones that isn't compatible with players, at least the ones I've tried.

No you cannot write a standalone compatible DVD movie onto a DVD-RAM! Panasonic's DVD recorders use the propriatory VRO-format on DVD-RAMs, but you can write DVD movies onto DVD-RW. I have experienced that even contrary to the information of the manual of my Panasonic DVD recorder it is able to play DVD movies from DVD-RW discs. I would be surprised if your Panasonic DVD will be unable to play movies burnt on DVD-RWs.

He did not ask if it would play on ALL standalones, he said in his first post that HIS standalone panasonic DOES read and play ram disc's.
So why can't he transfer a ripped dvd to his pc and as long as he records it to the dvd-ram disc in the format that it need's to be and play it on the player that does read & play dvd-ram disc's

I know, that's what i'm saying. I have a panasonic dmr-e80h that plays DVD-R and DVD-RAM. If i was to backup a movie and then burn it to the DVD-RAM, Would it play on my player?

Again, no. PCs use a different format. Neither of my 2 Panasonic recorders would play PC burned RAM discs. They would just say disc needs formatted.

The Samsung SAMSUNG SH-S182D follows the CPRM copy protection scheme the VR_MOVIE.VRO file in which DVD recorders of Panasonic store recordings is invisible if you use e.g. INCD included in the Nero 6 Express which is delivered bundeled with the Samsung DVD writer. I have exactly this Samsung DVD writer. I already have tried myself to write a DVD-structure onto a DVD-RAM to play it with my Panasonic DVD recorder and obtained exactly the same message samijubal has reported. The same DVD-RAM with the DVD-structure of course is playable with the PC but that up to my experience does not relate to standalone DVD-RAM capable DVD-recorders or DVD-players up to my limited experience. Again I recommend to use DVD-RW instead.

@king1199: Are you able to play DVD-structures recorded with a DVD-RAM-drive in a PC on your Panasonic recorder? Or are you just playing recordings on your Panasonic recorder which have been recorded by the same machine?

By the way I have found that if I use Nero Version 7 and produce an image copy (a *.nrg-file) of a recording recorded on my Panasonic DVD recorder of this DVD-RAM and then install this DVD-RAM-image-file using Nero's-image drive the VR_MOVIE.VRO file is readable from this image DVD-drive.
