Currently looking for a recording of the 25th anniversary celebrations for MTV where they re-screened the first hour (station launch) of the channel from 1st Aug 1981, complete with promos and commercials. I know that it was also repeated on VH1 around the beginning of the month. Did anyone here capture it?
It is also available on their web site, but for US visitors only. So again, I can't get access to it.
Hope you can help.
Rodney.

Morning energy80s,
Sorry to not be of much help but, the only thing I can offer up
is this *small* piece of advice..
If you go to any TV Guide website and search on their tv listings
in their [search] box and type your cryteria, you might find it
listed again in using whatever search string you can thing of.
Here's a spot I like to go to for an advance setup. Use this for
future tv search endeavors when you want to know what going to
be *re-broadcasted* again -- good luck !!

Thanks for the replys. Unfortunately I think any repeats are long gone, and it would also have to be shown on a UK channel. That's why I posted here, just to see if anyone had captured this bit of music / TV history and were willing to share the fruits of their labours. I'm tempted to contact MTV direct and see if they would dub me a DigiBeta copy (but I'm sure they won't), and I'm still trying various proxys to see if I can lift the material off their website (albeit in "VHS" quality), but their site is VERY dodgy, and I can't get it to display right in any web browser!
Ahh well, the search goes on .... -
Personally, I was a little disappointed in the first hour broadcast. They only played the first hour's worth of videos, and showed nothing in the way of classic VJ's or promos.
In the states , we were blasted with an hour full of Lynn Hoffman.
I might be able to work with you as far getting you a copy. I did capture it.
Just PM me. -
Seems odd, as the version I've heard described had all the original promos and adverts complete (plus a "meet the VJs segment"). It was shown on MTV (UK) at 11pm on 1st August. I would have imagined that the US broadcast would have been the same. What is in the programme that you captured?

The 25th Anniversary Special that was shown here, was on VH1-Classic. Lynn Hoffman was the host, and she replayed the 1st Hour of Mtv's original videos. The actual ' FIRST HOUR ' shown, prior to the Videos, was nothing more than an hour-long clip of the Space Shuttle preparing for launch, as the network began its debut.
That beginning hour was then wrapped up by the infanous T-MINUS 10-9 ... and so on down to "We have liftoff" It was that clip that introduced the original Mtv promo of the astronaught placing the mtv flag on the the moon, followed by the "one small step for man" clip , that VH1 for some reason decided to edit out.
We were then treated to the Buggles-Video Killed the Radio Star , and the rest is pretty much it. I assume they might have aired clips of the original VJ's during it's 24hr broadcast, but after the 2nd hour, I stopped recording/watching.
Even for their 25th b-day, they(VH1 or Mtv) still couldn't air , at least for one day, the Mtv I grew up on.
