Split&Concat vs MacPar

it seems the S&P processes .avi.xxx much faster than macPar.

but does S&P make use of the associated PAR2 files?

so whats the fastest way to deal with .avi.xxx files and make use of the PAR2 to check the blocks in the .avi.xxx?

I run

$ par2 r /path/to/whatever.par2

and then double click on whichever of the first twenty or so avi.xxx parts have the AJoiner icon, though MacHacha would do just as well.

For RAR files I run

$ par2 r /path/to/whatever.par2 ; unrar x /path/to/whatever.rar

It may seem odd to use the command line when there are very nice GUI's in existence for but for speed and ease on the CPU it can't be beat. If you ever run Activity Monitor on a G3 iMac while one of the GUI faces for a command line program is running, you can see how much needless overhead there is.

For consistency I ought to use cat rather than Ajoiner but there you go Some files need to be renamed and MacPar D is the easiest way to deal with them.
