    i must have installed or removed something as some of my video files are coming as very dark and in red with green information on the screen while playing with wmp.

    Which types of video files? If it's only one type, you might try VLC and see if they work properly with it. If so, you probably have a messed up codec. If not, maybe a video card setting or a Direct X problem.

    there mpeg and xvid files.And they played fine before? could it be that ive installed virtual dub!

    Highly unlikely - virtualdub doesn't install any codecs of it's own. Use codec sniper to search for broken codecs

    thanks,the sniper has found quite a few broken video and audio codecs!.Should i delete them or is there a way i can repair them.

    Take note of them, then delete and install new versions. Much safer than attempting to repair them in most cases

    is there a good codec pack i can install? ive installed koepeis pack and a few others.And also ive noticed they seem to be mainly be windows codecs/system 32,im dubious about removing those.

    problem turned out to be a ffd show filter,which ive now fixed.
