Hey guys,
The subject just about says it all I suppose.
I don't wanna pay for MS Media Center and I know there is at least one good Open Source alternative out there (But I've forgotten what it's called)... Mainly I wanna know is there any support for HD as well?
Thanks
Neilo

If the card is supported yes. Another freeware alternative is Got All Media

Make sure the card is supported and do your homework on user experiences.

Do you mean experiences with the software? I'm not sure what the card is 'cos it's actually for my Dad but I'll sus that out no worries...
Thanks heaps!

Hardware Software all of the above.
Never assume any of this will work as you expect. Do your research before spending good money.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

The moneys already spent on the card... And we're after a FREE alternative to Windows MC, but I guess we should still research the software before we go the bother of installing it..
Thanks again guys! -
It's my Dad's (which is why I don't know what it is) and yes he has it installed in a computer already...

I've had good luck with MythTV (www.mythtv.org). It will do High-Def Xvid files, and you can also browse the web, etc. on your TV. Very useful. Of course, you'll need some knowledge of Linux in order to get it running.
I have mine running on Fedora. There's a nice tutorial on how to set that up here: http://wilsonet.com/mythtv/fcmyth.phpJoin the fight against Product Activation & DRM!

Thanks for that... I think he's given up on it now though. Couldn't get a decent picture when connecting the PC to TV. I'd like to do it one day too but that's a bit of a put off.
