  1. Hi there,
I'm having a lot of fun trying to get chapters to work like a DVD when I play back in WinDVD and am wondering if anyone here can point me in the right direction.

I've followed the guides and can make a SVCD with either VCDEasy or VCDComposer which has chapters that will play either straight through or
that I can skip with Next/Prev - so far, so good.

What I would like is a (S)VCD with chapters that I can also get to using the menu in WinDVD (RightClick/Chapter->), so I can skip to a chapter towards the end of my mpg without having to skip through the intermediate ones.

Is this possible ? If so, what magic incantations do I need to do to make it work?

    Many thanks in advance

  2. I would imaging that that particular function in WinDVD is DVD specific so you wouldn't be able to use it no matter how you author your VCD.

Otherwise, you could use scene select menus to go to chapters (e.g., like on DVDs):

  3. If you're working with a single mpeg and defining chapters using entry points, then you should be able to select a specific chapter number in WinDVD. That's the way it works with my version. By default, VCDEasy will define the chapter numbers. If you're VCD is composed of multiple MPEGs you can still do this, but it's more difficult to set up.

Have you tried to see if it works on a stand alone DVD player? That is, can you navigate chapters using the number keys?

Read what the original poster was asking carefully. This wasn't what he asked.

I have read the post several times and I don't believe I misunderstood the question. My response was based on my experience with WinDVD. WinDVD has the option of selecting chapters through a right-click option (or by entering the chapter number in the "player"). The only time these haven't worked for me is when I have a multi-track VCD. It can work with a multi-track vcd, but there is a little more work that has to be done on the authoring side. However, I can't rule out the possibility that these functions in WinDVD are version dependent.

DaveSpliff, if I did misinterpret your post, perhaps you can let us know if your question was answered.
