    Hi,
I want to rip subtitles from a DVD and SubRip is an excellent application for doing this. But, it rips the whole movie in a .srt file and I want every chapter alone.

Is there a way of telling SubRip which chapters?? I really like SubRip, I think it's the best subtitle ripper, so I don't want to use another tool.

MacTheRipper extracts me the subtitles in .SPC files but SubRip does not recognize them. Someone knows how to convert this .SPC files to something that SubRip understands??

I manage to extract the chapter I want in a .vob file with the subtitles only with SmartRipper but this app is no longer maintained, which one would you recommend for doing this?

If you want subtitles by chapter, decrypt the DVD to the hard drive by chapters and then OCR. I'd use DVD Decrypter for the job (set up in IFO Mode), but SmartRipper will also still work on most DVDs.

Another way is to use VobSub Configure to do what you want by opening the IFO and then choosing the cell (chapter) you want to get the VobSubs from. Then open the resulting SUB file in SupRip for the OCR.

I have ripped the whole DVD, which .IFO I'm supposed to open with VobSub?? There are 3 of them

    VIDEO_TS.IFO
    VTS_01_0.IFO
    VTS_02_0.IFO

  4. Open the one in the same VTS as the movie (the one with the most VOBs associated with it). It'll either be 1 or 2.

What other program would you recommend like SubRip?
All my rips where perfect! I could't find an error, and the post correction are excellent!. I think the character matrix aproach is the best.
I just want to try different options because of the chapters problem or something that can be used with a script or that works with Mac OS X.

  6. I don't understand. Didn't what I suggested work? If so, why would you want to try something else? If not, what went wrong?

I don't know anything about scripts or about Macs.

If you managed to get the IDX/SUB files broken up by chapters, then SubResynch (comes included in the VobSub package) can also OCR into text based subtitles. It doesn't save character matrix files, though, so each chapter will have to be done entirely from the beginning. If you saved the character matrix when using SubRip, I guess you noticed that with each subsequent chapter there was less typing involved and each chapter was OCR'd faster than the one before.

Yes, it worked, thanks. but I want to try different alternatives now.
I want one that has a command line interface so I can make a script for the whole process.
I also want to see if theres a good alternative that works on OS X.
Or one that understand the .SPC files that I get for the subtitles with MacTheRipper
