Hi People, I'm currently using DivxToDVD to convert my avi's to vob's and usually get good results. However, when i convert a file which has been split into two avi's the sound comes totaly out of sync. Ive tried joining the avi's first but this usually results in the sound coming out even stranger, playing about a million times faster than supposed to be.

Another thing to note is that i think it may usually happend with avi's with the AC-3 ACM sound codec.

i know a few people have posted about sync probs, but i cant find any that solve this problem....

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

    cheers,
    lee

The recommended solution is to encode the two halves seperately, then author with tmpgenc DVD author. Put both halves on the same track (title), and remove the chapter stop that TDA adds automatically at the start of the second half. The title will then play through without a pause.

    Hi guns1inger,

thanks for your reply. i'm gonna check that programme that you suggessted, an let you know of the outcome.

by the way, i take it you meant encode each file to vob first....

    cheers,

I encode each part separately ... mux the audio (so I have 2 MPEG files each with audio) ... then I join with MPEG-VCR to create a single MPEG file with muxed audio.

It's been a long time since I just put the two parts onto the same TRACK/TITLE with TMPGEnc DVD Author ... but I noticed when I did that ... although sync was not an issue ... the playthrough was not "perfect" at the point where you go from file 1 to file 2 ... then again this was a long time ago that I tried that ... it was an older version of TMPGEnc DVD Author ... and I did not know about the "trick" to delete the chapter ... as guns1inger mentioned above.

I'll have to try that next time ... thanks for that guns1inger

    Hi FulciLives,

just wondering what this muxed audio is about...... is it an output format of audio or a programme like AVI-Mux GUI.....

So is it better to convert to mpeg files first before turning them into vobs... i know that dvd's are mpeg2 video format anyway...

Well your MPEG-2 DVD spec encoder outputs MPEG files or M2V/MPV files. No encoder outputs VOB files unless you are using something "funky" as the VOB files are what you get at the authoring stage ... not the encoding stage.

When you have a MPEG video file with audio (all one file) that is called muxed audio (adding the audio to the file).

I use MPEG-VCR to do the muxing ... also called multiplexing.

How do you remove the chapter stop? Thanks!
