So here's the story...
I have created 4 mpg files to be burned into a VCD. Two of the files are 352x240, the other two are 176x120. I know that the later two are not VCD standard. I tried using EasyVCD to create make these files into a VCD, and all went well (even with the warnings of the screen size), but like others, my CD-Burner would not work with the software. So, I downloaded the demo of Nero, and tried that. After the VCD was created, I decided to first try it out on my Minteck 2580 DVD Player. I have played regular mpg-1 & mp2-files on this DVD player before, so I knew that it should not pose a problem (but it did, of course). When I played the VCD on my DVD player, the sound was fine, but the video was "crunched-up" at the top of the screen. It looked like the video was chopped up into small squares, shrunk down, and arranged in lines on the top of my screen. Thinking that my DVD player just did not recognize the VCD format, I tried to play it on my computer using the Video Player program from my ATI A-i-W bundled software. The program refused to play the VCD, stating that it could not play VCD 2.0 format. So, I took the VCD to my brother's, which he has an APEX (I believe it's an AD-1500) DVD player. The VCD played the same way on his that it did on mine. Thinking that I might have accidently made the VCD PAL instead of NTSC, I had him try that out, too. Neither setting made any difference. I am going to try and see if there is any other variables, but if someone has any suggestions or even run into this problem also, could you help? One think I failed to mention is that I normally burn CD's with Adeptec's Easy CD creator (not the Deluxe).

Thanks for the recommendation Mirror_Image. I am going to download the update this weekend. I am also reburning the VCD, but I am allowing Nero to correct the Mpg's so I will see how that turns out also. I burned the Mpgs to disk and was able to play them on my stand-alone DVD player last night (not in VCD format), so hopefully they will turn out okay this time.

Update - I finally created the VCD correctly using Nero. It took me 3 hours to burn a 50 minute VCD w/menu. I let Nero recode the Mpg's, and the quality is not that great on the smaller mpg's because Nero "stretched" them to the correct size. I am going to recapture and recode those mpg's myself, but for anyone else, I recommend you let Nero recode your mpg's if they are not the correct size or make them the correct size, then burn.

Ok Ok someone has to help me before I pull every hair out of my head. I am trying to make my first VCD. I have been reading these posts for about two weeks now following every bit of advice I can with NO luck. My VCD's do not take long to record so that may be one problem.
I tried to use a CD-RW and it won't let me. ok here is my way:
I convert the avi to Mpeg with TMPGEnc and it plays fine. I use Easy cd to make the vcd and it copies I would say but it takes maybe 5 min tops and then will not play in my DVD player. I have a RCA 5220P which I looked up here and supposedly others have done this and can play them. I have tried everything I can and nothing. The latest thing is using a cd-rw and not just a cd-r. Well it won't even let me record on that. It said that my cd-rw is a high speed and won't work. I am begging for help here. I have til mothers day to get my moms present done and I am going nuts. Someone email me, IM me whatever it takes. I will love you all for life.
