Okay I'm not a total newbie, I've made hundreds of VCDs and SVCDs, but now that I've got a DVD burner, I have a question I can't seem to solve.
When I rip a DVD I nearly always get 23.976 fps video right? I understand that some sort of tag is added to the video to make it 29.970 fps when it's played back (3:2 pulldown right?).
Why then do all the DVD authoring programs I have insist on 29.970 fps videos? I've tried DVDit, ULead Moviemaker and SpruceUp, they all reject anything at 23.976 (I'm using TMPEGEnc to make the MPEG2 files). And yes, I tried setting TMPEGEnc to 23.976 and checking the "3:2 pulldown" box, still rejected.
How do I either get the authoring SW to accept such MPEGs or do whatever is necessary to use 24 fps video as a source?
Thanks,
James Bell

U could try using "pulldown.exe" to add the proper flags to all sequences & frames. Not sure it will work. I used DVD Wise & DVD maestro and never had a problem with it accepting the 23 fps or 29 fps format for NTSC

Yep, pulldown.exe should do the trick. I use this to get DVDitPe 2.5 to accept Mpegs produced with Tmpgenc. Using the Tmpgenc 3:2 pulldown flag doesnt seem to work. I also find that with DVDit PE I have to set the Number of P picture in Gop to 4 rather than the NTSC DVD templates value of 5. MyDvd doesnt seem to mind this value being 5

Pulldown.exe did do the trick. A pain to use though, a DOS app and you have to demultiplex, use it and multiplex again.
Does anyone know why TMPEGEnc's 3:2 flags don't work? Or why Authoring software can't add the flags?
Thanks for the help
JB
