Hey Guys,
Got a quick question. I have been encoding all my dvd rips to vcd standard. They have turned out great with no loss at all.
On my VHS captures though, going to VCD, can occassionally bring some sub par results. Does anyone know what would be the best encoding rates to fit 1 hour per 80 minute cdr ? I'd guess if you did like Sefy's SxVCD on a bit of steroids to get the most out of the full disc...
ie
Mpeg 2 1500max by 1150 vbr Video Stream
Mpeg 2 224 Joint stereo Audio Stream
Does anyone know how to figure if this would work, and what may be the maximum capcaities of either stream to set it up for 60 minutes per 80 minute disc ?
I just wanted to figure up a template since we probably all may be doing movies which are around 2 hours, and if we could give the vid stream a boost in bandwidth, it'd help us get the most out of the discs (rather than just wasting 20 minutes worth of space per disc).
Any ideas are very appreciated. Thanks !!!!!

Don't you mean in your figures
Mpeg 1 1500max by 1150 vbr Video Stream
Mpeg 1 224 Joint stereo Audio Stream?
Mpeg2 at such a low bitrate would be just awful.
Anyhow if you want to experiment lower the audio bitrate to 128kb/s instead of the normal 224kb/s. I doubt strongly you would hear that much difference, but it would free up about 8-10% of your space. With this amount of space you could increase your VBR of course. - Just a thought! -
Hi Bud,
No I did mean mpeg 2. It has worked perfect. If you also recall, the vbr and the mpeg 1 stream got into some issues with the SeVCD template. After that with the vbr stream, you really should use the lower bitrated vbr in mpeg 2 I believe.
Lowering the audio does work well. Thank you. I do have one encoding now with
1900 max by 1150 min vbr mpeg 2 cq vbr 90% VID STREAM
128 joint stereo mpeg 2 AUDIO STREAM
Looks to fit 50 minutes per 80 min cdr at this rate. The quality looks excellant as well.
As I previously mentioned, my DVD rips I encode to VCD with no loss, but the VHS caps, need the extra boost it looks like. I cap those currently at 3000 kbps Mpeg 1 x 256 stereo in a Dazzle DVC USB. Capping awesome, and now with this boost they are encoding very well.
Thanks again for any ideas
