I've been using DVD Shrink for long time - recently when i try to copy a movie it freezes during the analyzing part - - some times it freezes right at the beginning but other times it will get as far as 85% before it freezes. anyway, i cancel the process - it has a pop up that says are you sure - i click yes and then it just sits there - - control+alt+delete shows program not responding....i try to end the program in the task manager and it still will not close. so i end up having to reboot just to move on. so then upon reboot i tried dvd decryter and when i tried to browse for the drive that program also just shows the hour glass forever - task manager shows program not responding.
my computer works fine unless i am trying to copy a movie. I have not added any programs recently or made any major changes.
i have windows xp pro. I defragged and ran norton utilities but that did not help at all.
thank you in advance for your assistance!

These are some of the things that have caused my problems...
1. DVDShrink cache folder full
C > Documents and Settings > User > Application Data > DVD Shrink
2. Destination disk doesn't have enough space
3. DVD is dirty/scratched
4. PC is overheating
5. Simple re-boot (which you've already done)
But also, shut the power switch off for a few seconds
and then re-boot
6. Conflict with a USB harddrive
Most of my problems were caused by #3
If DVD Decrypter caused me problems like you're having
then #3 was almost always the cause.
Also, Norton???? -
let's assume you are backing up a newer movie that you own, otherwise you can't get help here. the copy protection on some newer dvds has changed and can no longer be bypassed with shrink or dvd decrypter. try a newer program like anydvd or dvdfab decrypter.

In dvd decrypter , in the setting's is "ignore read error's" ... it has been known to work .
Also check for resource hogging app's running in background ... and those "startup service's"
A startup service that is useless , until requested , is those stupid printer service's like epson printer's and it's ink/printer check in system tray ... it's useless for it to be there from startup .
Watch out for usb connected device's controled by that system tray icon as well (little green arrow) ... if the device is not required at startup (memory device's , camera's , ect) , then remove them ... well known too cause program's to appear as "locked up" .
Use ad-aware to scan for odd registry setting's , and more ...
Unistall any program's you do not need ... the less you have on a pc , the faster it will perform , and lockup's will be less of an issue .
Empty internet temporary folder , and system's temp folder's , recycle bin , follow up by running scandisk , then defrag the hard drive .
