Everytime I encode with bbmpeg (doesn't happen with tmpegenc) Nero gives me a standard VCD compliance error that says "stream encoding" is non-compliant. Everything else: 352x240, 1150kbit, 224kbit audio, etc is fine.
Is this like total Nero BS from some glitch in the prog that I should just say whatever to?
I figure I could just turn off VCD compliance but will it still play in a standalone player that only plays compliant VCDs and not XVCDs?

Yes, you could just press ignore in Nero and try and see if your player will play it. The other thing to do is run it through the mpegcorrecter software (also known as mpegsequencemaker) as Nero could be moaning at the fact that a few mpeg sequence headers are missing.
You can find this software in the tools section. Only takes a few minutes to convert. Normally the file size will change a little.
