    hi all,

I am a DVD newbie. I bought a Toshiba SD4900 DVDplayer a month ago. So far it has played American DVD's without problem. I want to buy a DVD set of a TV series from Mainland China, but I am wary of the regional code difference.

I saw the thread posted for hacking this player on this site, but the links given are all dead. I am wondering if anyone knows of any alternate sites where I can download those files?

    Thank you.

    Hi:

Have you tried this link? Many direct suggestions there. You do not need to go to other links.

    Good luck.

Yes. The links given therein are all dead. I am hoping there are other links out there so I can download the files before I buy the DVD set.

Suggestion no. 1 (by Hoeh Zaye, October 13 2003):

    Put in DVD.
When you get region whine message press: [menu] [1] [play]
Disc should play, but with region message still up.
Press Marker then Clear. Message is now gone.

Suggestion no. 2 (by Soturno, November 02 2003):

    SVCD Hack :

player on with NO DISK message in drive, then press the following sequence on remote:

    PAUSE, 1, 4, 7, 2

Probaly your SD 4900 will be display:

    55 53 00 67 14 55 64 FF

press LEFT arrow x4 (the value at the top should now correspond with the 4th value from the left in the middle of the screen)

press 6 and hold to change to F

press RIGHT and press 5 and hold to change to E

    The screen will display:

    55 53 00 67 14 55 FE FF

    now turn off the player
Feedback on SVCD Hack (by doctors4bob, January 07 2004):

The above SVCD hack does work, make sure as the poster said, to put the code in while there is NO disc in the tray.

    Great player, very impressed!

I don't see any links required to understand these suggestions.
