  1. I used the btirate calculator to use TMPGenc to convert my avi and mpg files to DVD complaint. My total files are 2hrs 22min 46sec. It said to use 4075 bitrate with 192 kbits/sec for the audio. When I put 4075 = 105.6% of capacity? What does that mean? Does that mean it wont fit on a dvd-r when I burn it and I will have to dvd shrink it?

Whats the difference if I set the percent capacity to 100% = 3849 bitrate and use this instead of the 4075. I think the bitrate calc is always off, giving me over-capacity. Can someone comment on why?

TMPGEnc is notoriously over-sensitive and works on about 4200MB as the capacity. So long as the size is under 4450MB or thereabouts, you shouldn't require DVDShrink at all.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  3. so 4075 would be fine even if its 105% capacity? I dont think you know how big it is until AFTER you output everything.

  4. Are you using TMPGEnc Xpress, If so I'd just let it set the bitrate automatic by choosing DVD5 and then change it to 102% size as that always has fit for me.

If you are authoring it to DVD after encoding, you have to allow some room for that process. Menus, etc., take up a little space, maybe 200MB or so. If you don't trust the TMPGEnc calculator, try one of them in 'Tools'.

Plan on a lot more space if you're going to do motion menus. It will also add a lot time to your processing time as well.

Yep, that would be fine if you wanted it to fit the disc down to the very last MB, and provided that TMPGEnc could be accurate down to the last MB. However, as others have said, depending on what you want in terms of menus, it might be advisable to round down and use the round figre of 4000kbps, and this should allow you to include a basic still menu.
    If in doubt, Google it.
