  1. I have an *rmvb (~300mb) and want to add subs into it and also convert it into avi format
i have made my sub more interessting by adding color, changing position....and when i use MediaPlayerClassic (combine with Vobsub), the sub is shown exactly the way i want it to

now i want to add the sub into my rmvb file, i use the Avisynth to write script (DirectShowSource("C:\xxx.rmvb", fps=25, convertfps=true) so that i can open it in VirtualDub

the problem is the file ended up too big (~more than 1000mb), i use Xvid MPEG-4 Codec for the Compression in VirtualDub, so how can i adjust the Configure of it to make the output file smaller (may be about equal to the size of the orginal file ~300mb)

Do you mean that you recorded it on your DVD Recorder, not player?

If so, did you record it in Video mode or VR mode?

Did you finalize the disc when you were done?

A DVD PLAYER can only PLAY discs (thus the name), not record them. A DVD RECORDER can both Play and Record discs.

What player do you have that you are trying to do this on (Brand and Model Number). That would help clarify things up a bit.

  8. BTW: someone plz answer my first question, how you compress your rmvb file when you convert it to avi,PlZZZ, already used the compression option in virtualDub but it's still too big
is this problem only happens when you convert rmvb format? 'cause when i convert avi to avi (to add the sub), it didn't get that big

It depends a LOT on which codec you used, and what options you set in the codec.

Okay, it is a recorder, not a player. It looks like a decent machine and got a 7.8 out of 10 by the users here.

On my Pioneer DVR-225 when I insert a blank disc into the recorder it will automatically initialize the disc for me. In my case when using RW media I use VR mode (I like the time shifting capability, or the ability to watch something else on the disc while it is recording something else.) If I want to save what I recorded I can convert it later on the computer.

If I am recording in Video mode, I have to finalize the disc before I can use it outside of the recorder. I believe it works this way on most DVD recorders. There should be something in one of your menus that says "finalize disc." You'll need to do this before you can play the disc in any other player.

If the disc plays fine in your recorder, there could be a couple of reasons why it won't work on your PC:

    1. If the disc is recorded in Video Mode, the disc wasn't properly finalized.
    2. The disc was recorded in VR mode.
    3. Your PC DVD-ROM/Burner doesn't like the media you're using.

Try putting the disc in the drive on your computer. Open windows explorer and see if you can browse the disc for any files on it.

If you see the directories AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS, then the disc is recorded in Video Mode.

I don't know if there are differences in VR mode from machine to machine, but with mine there is one directory called DVD_RTAV. Inside that directory are two files called VR_MANGR.IFO and VR_MOVIE.VRO. The VR_MOVIE.VRO file is the file where your movie is stored.

Try to see if you can finalize the disc first and see if that takes care of that problem. We'll go from there to help you get things working.

    Take Care!

Are you using either AC3 or MP3 compression on your audio as well? It could be possible that it is saving the audio as uncompressed WAV.

Did you resize the video for the conversion?
