Head over to the CONVERT section left. Read guides on AVI to DVD. Look for guides using multipass encoding, using CCE or Procoder or TMPGEnc.

  3. In order to do this, you will actually have to read several methods and make a decision as to which one to use. This will be based on a number of factors, too numerous and time-consuming to explain here. Short explanations will involve a number of concepts which you will not yet understand. You must do the research to understand the factors which will influence your decision.

You question is similar to asking "What is the best way to move snow?" How much, how far, how fast, how heavy, etc. There is no correct answer, it is based on information which is currently not available. Some, like me, may live in Florida and just not care.

The easy way is NOT the best way. You are not yet prepared to do the steps required for the best way, or to understand the difference. Doing the reading will improve the quality of your output far more than any answer you will get to this simple question.

If you don't like my answer, then get one of the "one-click wonders" or get someone else to do it for you.

You also need to understand that doing this will show up every flaw in your original avi, many of which you won't want to acknowledge exist.

The basic tools you will need are

    Avisynth with appropriate filters
FitCD to get you started with a simple script
An Mpeg2 encoder - CCE Basic, Procoder Express, HCEnc, Tmpgenc
An audio encoder - ffmpeggui, besweetgui
An authoring application - DVDAuthorGUI, tmpgenc DVD author

This is a simple guide on the very basics http://members.dodo.com.au/~jimmalenko/AVI2DVD.htm

It does not discuss the use of avisynth, which I use a lot to try to clean up the sorts of issues Divx/Xvid compression creates.
