Gold or Silver? The silvers are OK, but it depends on the media code. The gold are trash.

The silvers are OK. I wouldn't use them for anything but testing or limited archive retrieval purposes. I have a stack of silvers I keep for testing drives I purchase for others or for testing drives after I fix them. As you get towards the outer edge(the end of a large burn session) you start to see errors in the burns appear. This will result in movie backups that skip or lock up towards the end of the movie or data that is unreadable back into the system. I also use these discs for multi-session burns.
As I said, they are OK and they are consistently one of the cheapest discs available but their reliability for long term storage is questionable. -
Coasters are only indicative of burn failures. They do not relate to errors while burning nor are they a reliable method of knowing what you've burnt is retrievable.

Have used quite a few of the silvers. I like them. Burn them with a liteon without any problem at all. But I have learned from Lordsmurf, no matter how well they burn, what's important is how long they last. For me so far so good.
