Hi,
I have the Epson r220 and recently I replaced all of my OEM ink cartridges with generic ones as the original ones ran out. I noticed when printing black and white text that the BLACK is not true black, but rather lighter as sort of having the brightness turned up on a monitor (too bright). I compared to the original OEM.
I ordered the replacement ink from from megatoners.com. Other colors seem fine.
Thanks,
George

When you print, try turning on ICM (Image Color Match). It seems to fix that problem (among others) with the generic inks.

Hi,
I turned on the ICM and I still get this lightish, almost redish black instead of the true black. Big difference when comparing to the OEM black?
Any other suggestions?
Thanks -

Have you tried printing a test sheet from Windows? I've found a few printers weren't printing from the black cartridge because it was clogged, after printing a test sheet. The print driver somehow automatically created "black", as if it didn't have a separate cartridge.

In my experience, Megatoners.com ink is absolutely horrid. I actually had to trash a printer because of the garbage ink. Not to mention the several cartridges that I had to trash because they just wouldn't work at all.
There are some better replacement inks out there, I suggest searching for something with a little more quality. Or, just buy a refurbished printer from Epson for $59.99. It's cheaper than buying OEM ink. -
I been using cartridges forom ebay for over 3 years (canon pixma 3000,and epson c62) Zero issuse

Make sure that it is really printing from the black cartridge, and not mixing the other colors to simulate black.

I replaced the cartridge with the original Epson OEM one as I was just frustrated fidling with this, and the black is now what its supposed to be.
I used megatoners due to a recommendation here, but the black is shit or it doesnt' work at all. Any other decent recommendation or is it basically what you pay for?
Maybe its worthwhile looking into the CIS thing, but $100 start price is a bit steep with my current cashflow problems. Maybe in the future, and there doesn't even seem to be a consensus over there. -
I have been using magatoners for years and really had no issues until recently, they changed brands of ink. I have no way of telling whose inks that they use, but it used to come in a green box with a rainbow on it, now it comes in a white and red box, the new stuff is garbage. It's nice to see others are having problems in some sick way, that it's just not me! Nice isn't the right word to use, but you should get the jist of what I am saying, Megatoners went down hill, sadly, $2.50 a cart, it used to be such a great deal, now they suck!!
Did it come in the white box? -
It now comes in white and red box, all except one which came in a yellow box. Yes, unfortunantely I guess its true, the ink is crap.
Does anyone have any other suggestions for inexpensive ink? What about CIS, I know there is a long thread that I read a little bit off, but can it be confirmed as the best solution for the ink?
