Having spent hours preparing my dvd of video clips of my little son (thanks to the help on these forums), I burnt it using TMPGEnd Dvd author.

Part of the way through the disc, is stops working and if I click on any of the chapters further on in the disc nothing happens either.

Now I gather that this may well be to do with the media I am using (Tesco DVD-R 8x).

So to avoid any further frustration can anyone please recommend somewhere in the UK to get top quality media that flippin works!?

    Thanks

  2. It could also be:
    The burnging software
    The speed settings
    The DVD player
Verbatim have always worked for me.

  4. As for the media, Taiyo Yuden has a good reputation, and although people outside the UK will swear otherwise, SVP have never sold me any duff Ritek media.

You might like to pick up one of their sample packs to see which works best with your recorder and whatever player you plan on playing them back on before spending any money on a quantity of discs you won't use, however if your hardware is a little fussy I'd avoid the Infosmart right off the bat. SVP don't touch the really nasty stuff - they warranty their media so they don't want it back !

Tescofor Christs sake, the grocery supermarket ? Yucks ! Just out of curiosity what media code are the dvd's ? Enter the details in the Media Listings on the left.

No. Why muck about any more than he needs to ? Just get the Taiyo Yudens from the link provided and you won't have any similar problems again. If you're serious about your dvd's stick with that brand and don't touch the el'cheapos again.

  6. Currently B&Q are clearing out Sony DVDRs at £5 for 25. These normally retail for about £13 so is a good deal. Otherwise use SVP (I use them all the time) and go for the Ritek's, Verbatum's or if you've the cash the TY's. Incidently, I see that SVP now have the Philips DVD Burner for sale at 20 quid! Might be worth a punt as a spare drive.

I always use SVP and get Ritek G05. Had one duff one out of about 300, and that failed during the burn. As for Tesco ones. My missus bought some Tesco branded CDRs, burnt some music onto them only to find that nothing in the house would play them! I hate to imagine what their DVDRs are like.

    I also always use SVP:

    www.svp.co.uk

and would recommend Taiyo Yudens. never let me down.

Stay away from high street stores and supermarkets when buying blank media, otherwise you either get inferior cheap media or decent media at rip off prices.

i tried an assortment of web-based retailers and got varying results, and getting a refund was always troublesome.

then i discovered a small specialist media shop just up the road from where i work. they know their stuff, and they dont rip you off. if you develop a rapport with them, they dont bullshit you, and they have always ben happy to exchange any faulty product i had. currently i write on mirror DVDs, £4.99 for 25, never had a failure.

so i recommend checking out you local shopping area, not just the big supermarkets. there might be a small shop that can sell you good product and give you a human face to talk to.

  10. Take a look at Ebuyer.co.uk.
They have a large choice of DVD's for sale.
I have bought several from them and had no grief with them.

By the way, I bought some of those cheap discs from Tesco's to try out and haven't had any problems with them at all. But the dye they use is the CMC type which I know some people have had problems with !
