So did I. For those of you who haven't, you can go to the customer service desk and ask for a booklet - they usually have them. When Costco had the buy 1 get 1 free for the 8X media a while back, the cashier gave me a break and let me buy 400 in one shot - he had a coupon and re-scanned it for me several times. I walked (staggered) out the door with 800 discs. Have burned almost 500 with about 10 coasters - which was mostly due to my laptop's crummy drive (got an external and no more problems).

BEWARE! The last +R TDKS's I saw were actually made by CMC and were absolutely the worst discs I've ever seen.

That's odd - the +Rs I've seen have all been made in India. Does CMC have a plant there? I can't tell you about the quality of the +Rs as I've only purchased -Rs. So far so good.

If the +R are made in India they're MBIL discs, not CMC.

The 8x DVD+Rs seem pretty good judging by scans I've seen, though I've never used any myself.

The TDK 16X DVD-R from Costco are TTH02. I burn at 8x on a NEC3520a with Liggy's latest firmware hack. DVDInfoPro PI/PO shows 98.25% quality. I am definately a happy camper.

    I got a spindle of DVD-R and a spindle of DVD+R...

Here are the details...Do you think this is a good batch ? Should i just go and get it exchange the DVD-R

    DVD+R Info = [UPC Code : 0-2035648645-7]
    DVD-R Info = [UPC Code : 0-2035648644-0]
Topone in the attached image is DVD-R and bottom one is DVD+R

    tdkdvdminusr.gif

Even though it is TTH02 max speed is 4x...but advertised as 16x...I randomly picked 5 of them and all of them are 4x...I have to go tomorrow and get it exchanged both of them..

Is there any number/code that i should look for ?

    Thanks

What drive do you have? It may simply not have proper firmware support for TTH02 at its current level. Try upgrading your drive's firmware.

I'd crossflash the OEM 1620 to the official BENQ 1620 "B" firmware. The "G" series was for OEM drives. All you need is the WinDXFlasher program and the CVT files. You can check out the BENQ FORUM to download the flasher program and CVT files. The "G" firmwares are not updated as frequently as the "B" firmware. The last "B" firmware is B7W9.

  18. I've been burning the batch of Costco TDK 8x printable +R's from last year with no problems either burning or playing back. And "yes" they are CMC media. I've actually never seen a TDK +R media that wasn't CMC - either printable or not. I use a Pacific Digital 16x drive (a rebadged Benq 1620).

I could not resist the 2 for 1 sale at Costco again this year even though I'm still working on last year's Costco media purchase. So now I have 2 100 packs of TDK 16x DVD+R media - but have not had the need to open one of them yet. Maybe I will just to try one out and see if it is CMC media again.

Wow, you never saw any YUDEN000T02, RICOHJPNR02 or MBIL media under the TDK brand? My condolences.

No condolences are necessary since I've never had any problem burning or using any of this media . . . even after leaving it on the shelf for a year.
And the label surface print quality via my Epson R320 is also excellent.

Didn't realize you were speaking only about the printables. In that instance, I'm not surprised you haven't seen anything other than E01s.

who actually manufactures the TTH02 coded discs?

does TDK make their own media for once?

could CMC just make these and code them w/ TTH02?

always been curious about this, thanx

TTH02 is made in one of three places. The most common are discs from Taiwan, made by CMC with TDK's equipment (stampers, dye) and to TDK's specs. Next is TTH02 made in Luxembourg by TDK's own plant there. Last, and most rare are the discs made in Japan by TDK.

My situation exactly. I loaded up on 8X last year and couldn't resist stocking up on 16X this year even though I haven't burned all the 8X. BTW, my NEC3520 with L&D 2.U3 firmware burns the TDK 8X (CMC media code) at 16X with no problems. YMMV

Is it possible the TDK +R media internally identified as CMC is also made to TDK spec's and/or equipment and accounts for our continued good experience with this media in spite of the folks who come in here and constantly trash all CMC media?
