What program can I use to tell me if a particular track on a CD has been recorded in 16, 24 or 32 bit sound? Thanks for any info.

if it is red-book standard (which cd's that you buy at stores are) then it is 16-bit.

What does Red Book Standard mean? I would assume that some Commercial Music CDs would be encoded in a higher bit than 16 or am I mistaken? Do all commercial CDs come in nothing higher than 16bits? If so, why would programs like Sound Forge, Goldwave and others encode in up to 32 bits? Can CDs accept 32bits? or only 16bits? Thanks for any info.

All commercial audio CDs are Redbook standard, i.e. 16-bit resolution.
DVD-Audio is 32-bit, I believe. -

To check properties you have to rip to desktop then right-click on file->Properties->Summary. -
Modern audio studios are set for 24bit even if the target is a 16 bit CD or DVD. This makes it easier to handle all the raw track levels. The final mixdown will get everything perfect at 16bit.
If the target is a film soundtrack, or DVD-Audio, or SACD, more care will be used from acquisition to track mix.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

But is there a program that will tell you at what bit the Audio CD is encoded at? I just want to know, I don't want to use 24bit unless I have to (Larger filesize). If it's at 16bits, I want to encode at 16bits. I just need to know before I encode. Thanks.

Normal Audio CD's are 16 bit 44.1Khz
HDCD is 20 bit not sure about sample rate
Audio taken from a DVD (VIDEO_TS) is generally 16 bit 48Khz.
DVD Audio is 24 bit 96Khz (AUDIO_TS)
Will "G Spot" give you the information you require? I am not on the right computer currently to test this for you....I would be surprised if it didn't.
