  1. How do i use virtual dub. i keep getting the following error message when i select save as avi.

    Error initializing audio stream compression:
The audio codec cannot compress the source audio to desired format.

Check that the sampling rate and number of channels in the source is compatiable with the selected compressed audio format.

What does it mean...how do i correct the settings...i need help in troublshooting this problem

  2. If you want to keep the original audio, select direct strem copy under audio. It sound like you are trying to recompress the audio with a different codec.

  3. As per my previous posts. Im trying to convert vcd dat files to divx and also separating the dual audios the original format has....conversion for the first 2 files were ok..but somehow i may have changed a setting while playing around with bitrates etc...and now it will not convert/save as avi the error msg keeps popping up. Can anyone help? Im a newbie with using virtualdub

    Thanx

  4. What codec are you wanting to use for the audio; mp3?

  5. Also is this virtualdubmod? I think virtualdub only accepts avi as input. Also please give isobuster a try, you should be able to extract the mpeg1 from the dat files and then use virtualdubmod to convert this to avi.

  6. The following is from another thread i posted.

I just recently purchased a player that plays dvd/cd/divx etc.
I have several copies of vcd(dat files) that i want to convert into mpg/divx format..so i can save them as data format onto a dvd-r. so i can can play them on my new player.
My vcds have dual audio and i dont know how to separate them...while playing the vcds on my computer i can choose the audio by selection in the menus of windows media or adjust them through the volume controls(left and right) ...after converting it to avi...i can only choose audio through the volume controls while playing avi file on my computer...
Can anyone please tell me how to convert vcds(dat files) into mpeg/avi data format and also separate the dual audio for my player.
Please advise steps and software to use.
Fyi the DVD media player I purchased from BestBuy is a Philips (model DVP642)

  7. Whats buggin me is that I followed steps for conversion with virtual dub as per member jagabo advised. and the conversion worked for the first few files....now everytime i select save as avi, i keep getting the error. i even purposely redid the first few files that i converted b4 and they dont work now also...

the settings must of changed somehow to prevent conversion....

fyi i first used vcdgear to convert dat file to mpg and then use virtualdub to convert the mpg to avi.

Like i said b4 im not computer literate..i dont know how to troubleshoot this matter.

  8. So you have two selectable audio tracks and do you want to keep both?
