PAL DVD to NTSC DVD

I got about 20 PAL DVD's that i got when i was over seas..... yea i wasn't thinking, now i want back them up & re-encode for NTSC. Can anyone recomend a program to do that? (Preferably Mac but PC is cool)

Buy a DVD player that can play PAL as well. No good way to re-encode and keep menus. Do a forum search if you want to try anyways. Lots of info on it, but there is no easy way to convert a PAL DVD to NTSC.

Another thing you might want to do is to see if there is a region hack for your player then try playing the DVD. It might work.

I was thinking about seeing if i can do it on the fly by playing it on my computer and then having a DVD recorder to capture the video. Would that work?

Also if i made a "Region Free" DVD yould it play my NTSC DVD player?

You're best bet is to buy a region free dvd player. They are really cheap these days. That way all you have to do is pop it in and play.

Actually your plan can work. I hooked up my soft modded xbox to my capture card and dubbed my pal dvd to ntsc mpeg and successfully burned a working dvd.

On my PC i have CloneDVD and it burns the DVD's Region free. Would the burned PAL dvd's (now region free) play in my NTSC unit?

Only if it can play PAL. Just because its region free doesn't mean it will play in a US dvd player. You either have to get a region free player (or a hack for yours if one exists) or reencode it somehow to US specs.

Any way you rip and burn back a dvd to dvdr will make it region free.

Now if your dvd player will convert PAL to NTSC, well, guess your gonna have to try one and see

Blanks are pretty cheap so what's 1 blank if it does not work 8)

Try it ... Panasonic ... DVD-RAM
or Pioneer ... DVD-RW

It will probably look like crap ... you'll lose the menu from on the original DVD

I've heard ... The Panasonic DVD Recorder can play a Pal DVD [not protected] and copy to the Hard Drive inside ... and burn it back out NTSC.

If someone has info on this method ... Please let us know.
