they still suck.
i was at a friends house last night and he wanted to rent a dvd, i told him to sign up for a free trial with blockbuster online because he would get a free coupon to use at the store, saving him $4 or $5..
i told him the online service sucked, and i just heard some reaffirming news from him today.
he added 10 DVD's to his Q last night, the first 2 showed as 'available now', which he was very interested in getting are now 'long wait' and did not ship. they wound up shipping 5,6,7 on his que, even though 3 & 4 still show as available..
it makes you wonder what the point of adding movies or even having a Q is with blockbuster online.. i told him if he was seriously interested in online rentals (aside from the free coupon) to check out netflix.

well with netflix they have that suggestion link to suggest movies that they dont have. i have submitted the movie "the car" to them more than i can count on two hands, and they still havent gotten it
i know this movie is on dvd cause blockbuster has it but im not a member there.....yet
the only other thing i have against netflix is their unlimited plan. it supposed to be unlimited but when they delay sending your next selections for a couple of days, just who is the unlimited plan for me or them, it sure takes them an unlimited time to send out next selections
other than that they are a good service -
I've never seen the conspiracy here, with Netflix. Usually when something takes an extra day or two to go out, it's being sent from another location, not your nearest one. Not all of them have all the discs.
Blockbuster has a smaller selection, virtually no tv shows, and the wait and queue can be crap.
Wal-mart is (was) the slowest, most pathetic rental site ever. In one month, one a 4-at-a-time plan, you'll be lucky to get 8 movies the whole month. Most of them are not available, and they shipped slow as hell.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

No one is saying "conspiracy" LS.
Yes. lumis...for some reason BB just cant get it together with their online service. They are taking severe steps to cut costs so I dont expect it to get better.
The reason netflix delays shipping is rarely due to out of stock. It's due to netflix having a set number of shipments per day each center processes. Moderate rated users and High rated uses are delayed on busy days allowing new, trial, and low users first access.
Why not hire more people or extend the number of processings per day? Who knows.
With the increases in rental price instores are charging (also signs of another increase soon) I think netflix offers a fair option even with the delays. As I've said before, just remove all references to the word "unlimited" and complaints would fall to near null. -

It was stated , in fact, "No One Is Saying Conspiracy."
The thread was polite, informative, and in "off topic."
Actually you are relating conspiracy to BB & Netflix first in this thread. So maybe you need to ban yourself if you follow YOUR suggestion.

I got my tinfoil hat.
snappy phrase
I don't know what you're talking about. -

haven't these online DVD rentals places also had a hit on actual DVD sales?
aren't people just renting more movies now? -

To be fair, I was light-heartedly referencing something Baldrick himself had posted, coupled with what seems to be the undying bane of these boards ("rental throttling" conspiracy).
Is that how these boards work? Only post in threads where your posts will be full of sunshine and puppy-dogs? Say you don't like someone suggesting DVDXcopy. You can't acknowledge that it's crap and suggest dvd-rb?
From the first and second posts, I was under the impression that this was more of an opinion thread (when it comes down to it, they all pretty much are). My opinion is that Netflix is a great company. No slowdowns or "throttling" for me.
I was simply retorting the vehement defense that Nitelite was showing for a post that he didn't read or didn't understand (only taking a moment to insult me).
And for the record, one does not need to use the word "conspiracy" for their rant to be deemed a conspiracy theory.
"Netflix is slowing down my selections on pupose just to spite me" is the same as "there is a conspiracy at Netflix to slow down my rentals" (ie. conspiracy theories), get it? -
i noticed a slowdown of netflix shipping. i sent them an e-mail (i had a helluva time finding out how to contact them). i simply asked if i was doing something wrong like missing the bar code in the window or anything else that would slow things down, or if they had a new system that i needed to adjust to for a resumption of quick shipping.
they replied with the standard queue/shipping guidlines.
i replied that i clearly understoodthe posted guidlines and was asking how i could return to the shipping times i originally experienced under the guidelines.
i never heard back. but my shipping times went back to lightening quick and for a month received new releases without any wait. i'm back to waiting on new releases (still "long wait" for 40 yo virgin), but i regularly have 3 day turn around time...
