This is good news for me:

I have actually yet to rent from redbox. But I like the idea and this is even better news. I have a 360 and a ps3 and this would be great to try out new games. (I finally traded in my Nintendo Wii - never played the damn thing).

  2. They have been doing this in my area for a few months. How do you play a game in one day?

I see it more as a super game demo than a play session. It would be to see if you wanted the game at all. Also even 4.00 for two days is better than blockbuster which I think was 9.00 last time I tried it - for a week though so I guess its the same price essentially.

You certainly aren't going to beat a game in a day - except for the crappy ones that is But it would give you a first hand feel if you want it. And demos can be a bit stripped down.

I guess you were in a test market the article was talking about. The red boxes near me are still just bluray and dvds.

edit - also would be a good thing for those who have either slow internet that would take forever to download a game demo or no internet at all. Then you can test the game first hand to see if its worth buying. Game trailers and internet video clips only go so far - especially if they are heavily compressed and pixallated to hell.
