external analog --> digital converter

Hi.

I'm looking for an external analog to digital converter, but I can't seem to find one in my area.
Does anyone know where I can find one of these? I've searched with little results. I'm pretty new to all this stuffy!

I want to do the following:

Analog source (VCR/TV/analog camcorder) --> external analog to digital converter --> Firewire Card

Also Dazzle Hollywood DV Bridge

Two of us have them and they work well for us. I have a problem with powerline spikes crashing it but additional grounding and extra filtering takes care of it. (I have 5 computers and "miles " of cables running around.)

I'll have to look in to the Dazzle Hollywood DV Bridge. I'm looking for a converter that I can physically buy at a store.

What are powerline spikes?

These are strong electrical "pulses" or noise on power cords (wall plugs). They are caused by turning on or off appliances (off can be worse). The worst offenders are electric motors (vacuum cleaners, washing machines, etc); next seem to be cheap switching power supplies (e.g. in computers). If you live close to an industrial are you can get tremendous spikes (very high voltages, very short duration) when they turn off very large motors. In my case, because of all the cables, data cables also pick up electrical noise. Even static can be strong enought to cause problems. Thwy aren't strong enough to trigger your "surge suppressor" but they can screw-up sensitive electronics; usually temporarily.

I've grounded everything together (especially VCRs and TVs that don't have 3-prong plugs). I've also grounded the Cablevision cable and this has "cured" the problem.

Yes, I have a camcorder. However, it's analog, so I can't use it as a bridge as you do with your digital camcorder.
