I installed Nero Ultra 7 Ultra Edition, but also had previous versions of Ulead and Sonic that came with the Pioneer DVRA06 writer.

I have been able to burn cds and dvds, but cannot playback DVD-R Video(finalized, does playback on standalone players)on my PC. The drive appears empty and a message displays that the device is not ready.

I uninstalled Nero, Ulead and Sonic, but that did not change anything.

I finally found/installed a DVD/MP3 Xpack decoder that WMP confirms that it is compatible and set that as preferred.

I believe part of the problem might be the hardware configuration.

We have a dual boot(XP and 98)-the Pioneer is setup as the slave to the master drive that happens to be using FAT32 as the file system. FAT32 does not read files greater than 4gb.

Should I install Nero Ultra 7 on both XP and 98?

    Using XP WMP10, yes
    Using 98-no

If yes on 98, should I install the OEM that came with writer(Nero Express, Ulead Video Studio, MovieFactory,PictureShow, DVDplayer) OR install Nero 7 Ultra Edition and in what order? install first on 98, then XP?

The two WD drives are FAT32. XP is installed on the E drive, using NTFS.

So the real problem here is that you cannot play dvd movies in Win98. I don't recall if the version of WMP used in Win98 was capable of DVD playback. I have always used PowerDVD. I expect that whatever software you have installed has corrupted the mpeg2 codec required for DVD playback. So all you need to do is reinstall whatever software that you are using for DVD playback or switch to another app such as PowerDVD, MPC, or VLC.
