I've been looking around the net for a few days and have come across a tonne of programs that can burn my divx files onto DVD.
The problem is that I don't want to pay for something that is either, 1. Crappy or 2. won't put multiple files onto one DVD.
Can anyone please recomment the BEST program for putting multiple Divx files onto DVD??? I have Nero, but it seems to get to around 2% of transcoding and then just freezes there for hours.

1st you need a good encoder. I use TMPGEnc. There are others.
2nd an authoring program. TMPGEnc DVD Author is easy to use. There are others.
That's it.
And read the guides to the left. <<<<
You can encode several Divx files to DVD compliant MPEG-2 and if they total less than 4.37GB you put them into TDA and author, then burn them to a single DVD.
I'm leaving out the details, but that's the best process. The encoder and authoring program can be different, but the basic method is the same.
Important note: Drop your original video into a program like Gspot and see what the attributes of the file are. If you see AC3 audio or MP3 VBR audio, that can cause a encoder to choke. You would want to extract that audio and deal with it. If your video is PAL, (25fps) and you are in NTSC land, you will have to read a little more.
If you just want to do a 'quick and dirty' conversion, DivxToDVD works well.
That's the short version. All the info you need is to the left. <<< Read. -
That's why I mention Gspot. You need a codec to read the file and its attributes. If you install the codec Gspot says you need, then TMPGEnc may be able to read the file. AVI is a container, not a format. It can be DV, Xvid, Divx, Huffy, or many others. The audio can also be varied.
If you want to do a conversion right, there is no 'easy' way. You have to learn about video formats and understand the conversion processes. It's a hobby.
But as you begin to understand the formats and the conversions and the tools, it's not so hard. You will never find a all-in-one, do-everything program. There is too much variety out there.
You want to become familiar with the 'What is' ... part of the forum to the upper left. <<<< That pretty much defines the usual formats. It took me several years to even scratch the surface of understanding video. I've still got a lot to learn. -
Visit codec section in tool's area and download and install those you need .
Then in tool's again , locate super ... that's all , tmpgenc is more of a pest ... super can encode file's very quickly .
With a few other freeware tool's , there is almost nothing you cannot achieve .
1: Install required codec's
2: Encode using super to mpeg2
Video must match dvd video format ... pal 720hx576w
New guide on 352x288 soon ... multiple title's
3: Use vdub to load mpeg2 , rip audio as wav
4: Encode wav to ac3 using besweet
5: Run batchdemux on mpeg2 , dump the mpa audio it create's
6: Use the gimp to create basic menu background in chosen format .
ie , if pal 720wx576h , add thumbnail for each clip , and play button image , or text .
7: Use dvdauthorgui to turn background into m2v
8: Convert all other divx file's
9: Import all title's , m2v's and matching ac3 audio .
10: Import menu , select generated m2v , skip audio .
11: Add button's , and link to title's .
12: Title's link back to menu when finished .
13: Author dvd .
Next can be skipped .
14: Import authored dvd into pcgedit , edit menu , button and title command's to more suitable style of operation .
15: Save dvd .
16: Use imagetool's to burn authored dvd folder's content , it's simpler .
Rule's: No more than 4.3gig per dvd
Use dvd-r
Slow down burn speed (4x is more suitable)
Recommended brand : Tdk ... never failed yet .
Follow those rule's should allow the disc to be playable in any home dvd player ...
More fun can be had with motion menu's ...
