Conversion

Hi All,

have looked around but couldn't find anything on NTSC to PAL conversion of VCDs... Does anyone know if it's possible, and if so what to use to go about it...

Use TMPGEnc, select the .dat file as the input, load a VCD PAL template to set the output.

...and perhaps take a look at the settings, since you are going from a slightly smaller resolution (352x240) to PAL 352x288
You have 3 options here:
1) Thin black bar top and buttom.
2) Stretch the picture and make the people a little thinner.
3) Zoom in a little and cut the picture left and right.

If you follow this you will sure 'nuf have converted from NTSC to PAL, but you will alse have introduced yourself to a jerky watching experience. This will convert the framerate by cutting of the excess frames (alternatively inserting extra frames if the source is NTSC-film). I have NOT found a way to flawlessly convert from NTSC to PAL. There is a guide that you could check out at http://forum.vcdhelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=78178 . I'd say, stick to the original format if your player and TV-set (and SCART-cable (Yes, I nag about this, but it was what solved my problem!)) can handle NTSC.

I agree with you on the last part, if your hardware supports both NTSC/PAL don't convert.
Just let the TV/DVD adjust the picture for you during play...
...but if you have to convert, those options is what you need to consider.
