So ive got around 8 gigs on my main drive at any given time and 90 gigs on my WD. I want to import all the home movies ive made to burn to dvd at a later date. Well we know that dv files are huge so i was wondering how i can import thru a different program or convert to something manageble. I have Imovie HD,Idvd,Final Cut Pro HD. As of now i recorded about 15 minutes of video and its 3 GIGS!! Could someone explain the best route for this. I just downloaded D-Volution but was wondering if another application would be better? Any help would be great. Ok I just realized maybe i can export to whatever i want from imovie through the share tab so maybe i can figure this out
Thanks guys

Here's the thing....
Why import all the movie files, if you don't need them right away?
Why not just import, say Xmas 19xx, and then edit and
then burn to iDVD? Then do the next "project" based in a
similar mode, such as "Easter" or " Birthdays"?
Doing a raw dump of all tapes in DV format will
eat up all you HD space for no reason, as you still
have to sort through all the imports just to build
DVDs of them?
IF it is NECESSARY to get them to HD because you are
afraid of losing them, or the tape quality isn't that great,
then go out and buy a secondary external FW drive
to archive the tapes to, such as a Lacie 160GB or Lacie 250GB
drive.
if your going to use iMovie or FCP, the import has to
be DV Stream. You could import, save, and then convert to
say, Quicktime Movie format, but it would then have
to re-convert back to DV stream to import into either
program, and all that converting/re-converting will
give you crappy footage."Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."
