    Hi

    Sorry if this has been covered before but I am having a problem with an xvid file I converted to dvd format.The original xvid movie file plays fine on my computer even though I can actually see where the bad frames are,there is also an audio hiccup around 1 hour 16 mintues into the film and the picture goes all garbled for a few secs but then everything returns to normal.But the audio seems to match the film right until the end.

    The problem is when I convert it to dvd format and play it on my dvd player(not computer dvd player)the audio is 2 seconds out of sync(used syncview alignment tool to check the audio and video lenght).I tried using Virtual dub to check for video errors but nothing shows up in the log so I dont know how to get the exact frame numbers if I want to edit those frames.

    The audio is MPEG layer-3.And video is xvid Mpeg-4.

    My questions is what would be the best tool to scan the audio for the hiccup I mentioned and remove it and how can I get an exact reference of the bad frames when VD doesnt detect them.

    Sorry for the message lenght and thanks for the help.

    If you scan the audio for the problem you MUST also ensure that the corresponding video is removed to avoid sync issues.

    2 ways possibly:

    1. VideoRedo for existing file;

    2. VirtualDub for original file. Use Virtualdub to note the points concerned and then delete them with Vdub ( I use the little black left and right arrows in Vdub). Using Vdub to check for errors never seemed to work for me but it was really helpful in finding the error points when i played it back in Vdub. Once you've done that, playback to make sure in sync and then re-encode to mp2 and author as normal.

    Set the audio and video to "direct stream copy" and save to a new file, your cuts will be made at "key" frames. Or you can frameserve direct to your encoder without saving.

    thanks for the replies.

    Just one question though does direct stream cover both audio and video in terms of deletion.I mean if I delete the video frames would that remove the audio as well,or do I have to edit the audio seperately?

    Sorry but I'm totally new to all this.

    **edit

    Sorry I understand now what you mean,direct stream then goto key frame/edit the bad frames then save avi.

    thanks.
