HI,
What would be a good device to take component out and audio (preferably digital) out - from any source.... to view or record on computer? I see all these tuner cards, but if you already have a tuner or cable box, why bother with all the fuss of not getting scrambled channels. I have also seen some devices for capture that seem to convert down. It would also be nice if it would convert to divx or something like that. We would like to record tv shows if possible. I also hear of trouble with the audio sync? is this true? Links would suffice, but direct ones would be nice... I am reading a lot of unrelated stuff through searches and after a few hours it gets to be really annoying and painfull. Thanks. Oh yeah, we prefer snapstream Beyond TV.... so that is the software we will probably use.

There are some external boxes that accept component video, but very few internal cards. Take a look here for a few ideas:

For what you are looking for, one of the external Firewire converters may work the best.
