I have been converting my Divx movies and clips using TMPG, Virtualdub, toolame, then finally burning the converted file with Nero.

I would really like some opinions on the value of TMPG, Virtualdub, toolame as opposed to a Panasonic or LSX MPEG which you have to pay for. This is why I'm asking:

    1. Toolame sometimes fails during the TMPG conversions.

    2. TMPG takes a long time to convert, 8-10 hours is a long time time.

    3. TMPG doesn't do the greates with sound, except if I extract to a WAV file in virtualdub, then use toolame during the encoding process.

    4. So many templates out there for TMPG, I'm starting to get crazy comparing them all, especially with how long TMPG takes.

    5. Is the quality of the encoding/conversion better ? or simpler with Panasonic or LSX MPEG ?

    6. I like simple and would prefer using just one product for encoding and conversion to MPEG-1 or 2, then burning with Nero.

    7. I've use to NERO converter and it doesn't come out very good, compared to the process I used to using with TMPG, Virtualdub, toolame.

    8. Which products which you need to purcase seems to be the best ?

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

well panasonic is defently worth it for vcds although on some computers its quite slow, lsx is fast but i wouldn't touch it with a 20ft pole!

Personally, I don't think they are worth the money. TMPGENC is absolutely the best encoding MPEG-I. And it's very very cheap...

Otherwise, if you want speed, you can go to LSX (worst quality) or to XING encoder (very fast and very horrible quality). You can try, if you make a great amount of VCD's, to use a hardware encoder. It's the fastest way.

    You choose.

    Good Luck!

For Baker, why wouldn't you touch LSX with a ten foot pole.

    For Marti,
I have read many, many posts about the excellent quality of LSX ? I'm really confused on your response. The only issue I have heard was the price.

    Please reply !!

:-? Another item with TMPG is sound. I put the sound in a wave file, and connect TMPG with toolame to get qood quality sound, but many times toolame fails with an unexplained error ?

With TMPG, what do you do about getting good sound quality from Divx or DVDs ?

  7. I bet that less than 1 percent of people that use the Panasonic encoder have actually PAID for it...

    Jolo,

LSX can give acceptable results with SVCD and very good with DVD, but much less than TMPGENC when encoding Mpeg-I.

Of course, that's only my experience.
