    Hey,

Anyone ever have any trouble wth subtitles not appearing for only part of a movie?

I've got a ripped VOB that if I play in VLC I can select subtitles and view them for the whole film just fine but when I encode it with ffmpegx the subtitles are missing for the first half of the film but are present in the second.

Does anyone know why this would be?

    John

    Hey!

I've notice this happening as well but it will drop subtitles here and there during a movie. I can't figure whats causing it to drop parts of the subtitle at all.

On another note, I cant seem to convert anything with subtitle add in as an srt file at all. Is this currently broken?

    thanks

  3. Do the subs show up when using the "Play" button?

    Hi Major,

The subs show up fine during playback with the play button as far as I can recall.

question: should I be seeing my new specified video size when pressing play as well?

  5. No, play just plays the source movie, but it add filters to it (including subtitles).

I have a feeling the subtitles on the disc are simply odd in my case. I tried to doing a chapter rip and was able to use the subs on that chapter fine where they didn't work in the same place when i encodied the whole thing.

    Weirdness.

you know, i've got the same thing going on. any ideas on a possible cure/workaround? is it possible to rip all the subtitle files, join them, and then add the joined file when encoding to dvd again?

I had this issue with one DVD using ffmpegX_t Mencoder DivX. The workaround was changing the aspect ratio.
Subs displayed fine using prewiew and play buttons, also in Apple DVD player. In VLC some subtitle track names appeared double in Video menu but the ones I wanted worked good.

First I used automatic 2.35:1, in my case 720x304. About a half of the subtitles were dropped seemingly randomly throughout the movie. Picture seemed just a bit vertically streched (almost not visibly).

I started experimenting with one chapter.
Using 720x290 all subs were present.
Using 720x296 only the second half of the subs showed up that had been missing first time.

I could reproduce such behaviour several times. Did not touch any other settings. Haven't tried this with new version u.

Custom mencoder settings: crop, deinterlace, High Quality, 4 motion vectors, Trellis quantization, bilinear, SSE, Qmin=2, Qmax=4
