I have a problem with DVD authoring in DVD Architect (Sony). DVD Architect aways want to recompress my mpeg2 streams, although I think that they meet criteria described in help:

    4:3 720x576
    Frame rate: 25 fps
Maximum GOP (group of pictures): 30
    Maximum bit rate: 9.8 Mbps
    No low delay

Example of the stream is here: http://www.filini.org/gspot.JPG (gspot information). Stream has according to BitRate Viewer GOP max. 20.
Streams are captured in WinTV 2000, from DVB-T card Hauppauge HVR-1100, than edited in MPEG2Cut.

Project is set up well - PAL 720x576.

Does anybody know where can be a problem? Thanks a lot!

Maybe your bitrate is too high????

Programs like tempgenc dvd author and others get a little squemish when you bump the bitrate too high. Even though it may technically be in the specs you should try to capture it a little lower if you don't want to have to reconvert it.

Bitrate peak is 6230 average 3541. Do you think this may be the problem? My capturing SW does not allow me to set any mpeg settings, there is just one choice ...

GOPs too long ? I though GOPs for PAL DVD were meant to 15 or 18 ?

Also, check the project settings. Default for DVDA is NTSC, which will also force a recompress of PAL material (trap for young players).

What is the run time for the asset ?

The movie is 1h 30m long. PAL setting is OK, source is PAL, project is PAL
Thus maybe there is problem in the GOP, if for PAL is 15-18 ... is there any chance to change the size of GOP?

Perhaps Restream can help, although I don't know if you can change GOPs without re-encoding.

Sometimes Sony DVD Architect recompresses MPEG files seen by the application as "ill formed". Did you render those files yourself? If the answer is no....let DVD Architect do it for ya!
